A cover letter that looks like it came with the resume

A cover letter set in different fonts, with a differently formatted address block, quietly says the two documents were assembled from two different templates. Here the letter inherits your resume’s theme, typeface, accent colour and contact header automatically.

How it works

The cover letter is a second view of the same document, not a separate file you maintain. Switch to the cover letter tab and you get the recipient fields and a body editor; the letterhead, typeface, accent colour, border and spacing all come from whatever your resume is already set to.

Change the resume’s theme afterwards and the letter follows. Export the pair and they arrive as a matched set.

What to actually write

The structure that works is short and specific — three or four paragraphs, under a page, no restating of the resume:

Address a person if you can find one. "Dear Hiring Manager" is fine and vastly better than "To Whom It May Concern", which reads as a form letter because it is one.

Export options

The letter exports to PDF, DOCX and Markdown exactly like the resume, with the same embedded-data trick — re-import the file later and your text comes back intact, ready to retarget at the next employer.

For applications that want one attachment, export both to PDF and merge, or paste the Markdown export straight into the application form’s text box.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cover letter match my resume automatically?

Yes. It inherits the resume’s theme, font, accent colour, border and contact header, so both documents are typeset identically without any extra configuration.

How long should a cover letter be?

Under one page — typically three or four short paragraphs. Anything longer competes with the resume rather than supporting it.

Is the cover letter builder free?

Yes, with no account and no watermark, the same as the resume builder.

Can I export the cover letter as a Word document?

Yes — PDF, DOCX and Markdown are all available, and the DOCX opens as native, editable Word formatting.
